Rohit Shetty’s ‘Golmaal 4’ will be remake of south film ‘Soodhu Kavvum’

There’s another remake of a South film in the offing in Bollywood. Rohit Shetty’s ‘Golmaal 4’ is reportedly a remake of the 2013 Tamil black comedy ‘Soodhu Kavvum’ which was directed by Nalan Kumarasamy and had Vijay Sethupathi and Sanchita Shettyas the lead pair. An insider close to the film told a daily, “Expect Rohit to add something of his own to the script. Even the main plot of ‘Golmaal 3’ was said to be inspired by ‘Khatta Meetha’, but nothing else was similar in the film.”Also, since Kareena Kapoor is unavailable for the film due to her pregnancy and Deepika Padukone is busy with other projects, Rohit is hunting for the leading lady for his film. For now, actresses like Shraddha Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra are all likely possibilities. The role is said to be strong and performance-oriented given that the actress would be playing an imaginary character whom only the leading man can see and talk to.In the original film, the lead character Das has three broke friends as assistants. He kidnaps people for ransom to make ends meet and has Shalu as an imaginary friend. Life turns around for him when he meets Arumai who fakes his own kidnapping to get money from his father. In the fourth installment of ‘Golmaal’, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu will play the three broke friends, while Ajay Devgn plays the protagonist Das. Says the source, “the female lead (Shalu) will play Devgn’s romantic interest. This role was ideal for Kareena, but she can’t be a part of ‘G4’ as she’s due this December and ‘G4’ starts shooting in October. The scenes involving Shalu and Das have certain comic elements to it and form one of the highlights of the film.”
