Vidya Balan has been chosen as the brand ambassador of The Indian Film Festival which will be held in Melbourne in August. The festival will also see the presence of actors like Richa Chadha, Rishi Kapoor andRadhika Apte among others. The theme for this year’s festival will be women empowerment.This year, the festival opens with ‘Parched’, directed by Leena Yadav which stars Radhika Apte as one of the leads. Talking about the film, Leena said, “The movie deals with a misogynistic society that treats women as objects of sex, where their greatest role is to serve men. It is a huge honour to be the Opening film at MIFF,” Leena was quoted as saying in a report.This year, IFFM will have Rishi Kapoor as its chief guest, who will also do the honour of hoisting the Indian flag at the festival on Indian Independence Day in Melbourne. According to Kapoor, he is eagerly looking forward to being a part of the film festival. Richa Chadha said that it is a great honour to be invited to speak on behalf of Indian cinema in Melbourne. The festival will close with the screening of ‘Angry Indian Goddesses’.
