Esha pulled out of her actingdebut following her in-laws’ disapproval.
When writer-filmmaker Abhishek Jawkar began casting for his thriller, Missing on a Weekend last May, his close friend and Rock On actressPrachi Desai suggested that her sister Esha would be an ideal fit for one of the characters. The star sibling was locked for the role and the film took off with a 22-day schedule in Goa. A second schedule was planned for Gorai in November.”However, two days before we kicked off the second schedule, Esha called me to inform that she couldn’t shoot anymore. She said she was facing troubles in her marriage and that her in-laws were unhappy about her working in a film. I couldn’t bring up the contract or money because she was a friend. It was extremely stressful,” recalls Abhishek. The filmmaker then went back to his audition tapes and rang up Khushboo Kamal, who was available on the required dates. “We wrapped up the Gorai schedule and went back to Goa in February to re-shoot at Vagator, Calangute beaches among other locations. We lost a lot of money since we had to bring back the crew of 140 people,” Abhishek, who is also one of the three producers of the film informed Mirror.”I decided to get into production-direction after 10 years of being a distributor. I realised early on that it is not easy to find a producer for your film so I decided to fund mine and was lucky to find co-producers in Adept Films. It was a difficult time, we went over-budget but I realise it’s all part and parcel of the game. Luckily, the re-shot portions came out better than the original,” he says. The film follows CBI officer Pawan Malhotra as he investigates a murder at a party over a weekend in Goa. Esha was to play one of the six friends who end up at the bash. Hariharan’s younger son, Karan, makes his acting debut as a character who is found unconscious on the beach after the murder.
